Spectacle Adjustment and Repair

Our licensed opticians are very experienced in spectacle adjustment and repair. We welcome visits during store hours to assess the state of the frames or lenses and can provide the professional help needed to address your concerns with your glasses.

Medically Necessary Visit

We prioritize patients that require urgent care (when possible). Good ocular health and vision are vital to our everyday activities, and our optometrists encourage patients to call to make an appointment for any emergent vision or eye health concerns or problems. Urgent and medical visits may be booked in advance or on the same day, and fees are covered by Alberta Health Care.

Diabetic Health Exams

Regular annual eye exams are an essential component of health care for people with diabetes. Yearly screening helps to identify early stages of diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, or prescription changes related to the regulation of blood glucose levels. The Alberta Association of Optometrists states that diabetic retinopathy presents in nearly all people with Type 1 diabetes, within 20 years of diagnosis, and 80% of people with Type 2 diabetes, within 15 years of diagnosis.

Dry Eye Syndrome Treatment and Management

If you have watery or tearing eyes, you may be suffering from dry eye syndrome. Other symptoms include burning, soreness, itchy, sandy feeling, and blurred vision. Dry eye symptoms can be worsened by rubbing the eyes, living in dry air conditions, medications, contact lens use, and history of eye surgery. It can sometimes be temporarily relieved using artificial tears to lubricate the eyes. However, chronic dry eyes can permanently damage the eyes without the eyes feeling it, and can progressively worsen and damage the cornea. Optometrists at LO Optical can help prescribe the proper therapy to treat and manage dry eyes to prevent the condition from worsening over time.

Systemic Health Screening

Eye exams are essential tests that detect problems throughout the entire body. The American Academy of Ophthalmology identifies many systemic overall health issues that may have signs that are revealed in a comprehensive exam, sometimes before symptoms are noticed. These include, but are not limited to: aneurysm, brain tumour, cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure and vascular disease, high cholesterol, giant cell arteritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, sickle cell disease, Sjogren’s syndrome, stroke, thyroid disease, sexually transmitted disease, and medication toxicities.

Military/RCMP Eye Exams/Application Forms
